Culture Pervades

The word 'culture' means different things to different people. It can relate to a social activity on a Saturday night but also to a form of social behaviour passed on over thousands of years.

This event brings together a diverse panel of speakers to discuss the evolution of culture and to give their viewpoints on how culture influences people and how it fits into the grander scheme of evolution.

The panel includes:

  • Professor Martin Kemp, Emeritus Professor of the History of Art at Oxford University (Chair)
  • AS Byatt, Booker Prize-winning novelist and poet
  • Professor Armand Leroi, evolutionary developmental biologist at Imperial College London
  • Professor Robert Foley, Director of the Leverhulme Centre for Human Evolutionary Studies at University of Cambridge.
